Heat Pump Installation in Coquitlam
Coquitlam’s homes range from older houses in Maillardville and Austin Heights, many with electric baseboards, to new builds on Burke Mountain and hillside homes on Westwood Plateau. Elevation matters too. Upper neighbourhoods run a little colder and get more snow than the valley floor. We plan heat pumps for each of these situations.
Coquitlam homes and the right system
| Area / home type | Usual approach |
|---|---|
| Older homes with electric baseboards (Maillardville, Austin Heights, Central Coquitlam) | Multi-zone ductless mini-splits. The strongest case for provincial rebates |
| Hillside homes with a gas furnace (Westwood Plateau, Eagle Ridge) | Dual fuel. The heat pump does most of the work and the furnace covers cold, snowy spells |
| Newer homes (Burke Mountain, Partington Creek) | Ducted cold-climate heat pump; some homes are pre-wired for one |
| Townhouses and condos (City Centre, Burquitlam) | Ductless or slim-duct units with strata approval |
What we plan for in Coquitlam
- Colder upper elevations. For homes up the hill, we choose cold-climate models and keep the outdoor unit well above the expected snow line.
- Sloped lots. Units on retaining walls or terraced yards need secure mounting, safe service access, and drainage for defrost water.
- Older electrical panels. Baseboard-heated homes often have the panel capacity, since the heat pump replaces baseboard load, but we confirm it with a load calculation.
- Noise on tight lots. Newer subdivisions have close neighbours, so we place units with sound in mind.
Rebates and costs
Coquitlam homes on electric baseboards are often the best candidates for provincial heat pump rebates. Gas homes may qualify for dual fuel offers. See the BC heat pump rebate guide and the heat pump cost guide.
Our installation process
- Site visit with heat-load calculation and a panel and placement check
- Written quote with model numbers, electrical scope, permits and warranty
- Installation, usually one day for single-zone and one to three days for multi-zone or ducted
