Viessmann Boiler Repair: Start With the Model and the Symptom
Viessmann boiler repair starts by identifying the exact model and testing the fault before choosing a part. Tell us whether you have no heat, no hot water, a leak or a returning code. We explain the findings, repair scope and parts availability before you approve the work.
Greater Vancouver service. Send the model, serial number and a photo of the display when requesting an appointment.
What Does the Fault Tell Us—and What Still Needs Testing?
A fault code tells us what the control detected; it does not identify a replacement part by itself. We match the exact display message to the boiler type, then investigate the operating conditions. A heating problem can also come from the connected circulation or controls.
| What you notice | What we need to establish |
|---|---|
| Returning ignition lockout | The relevant fault definition, ignition sequence and conditions at the time of failure. |
| Boiler runs but rooms stay cold | Whether heat leaves the boiler and reaches the affected circuit; pump, valve and control operation. |
| Heating works but tap water does not | Whether domestic water comes from a combi arrangement or a separate indirect tank. |
| Pressure repeatedly changes or water appears | Where the water is coming from and how pressure behaves as the system warms. |
| Short cycles or unusual noise | When the symptom happens and which zone or hot-water demand is active. |
Write down the code exactly, including dots and letters. Viessmann’s contractor fault-code guidance requires the applicable manual; its example distinguishes F.7 from F7. We do not use a universal “F4 means replace the igniter” or “FF means replace the board” rule.
Smell gas? Leave the building. From outside, call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911. See FortisBC’s gas-odour instructions. Keep boiler covers closed while waiting for service.
Which Viessmann Model Is in Your Home?
The family name is only the starting point. Two boilers labelled Vitodens can use different controls, fault definitions and components. Use the full type and serial number to identify yours. The Canadian model references below help you describe the equipment when arranging a diagnostic visit.
| Family | Model or type references | Why the distinction matters |
|---|---|---|
| Vitodens 100-W, B1HE / B1KE | B1HE-85, -120, -150, -199; B1KE-120, -199 | B1KE is the combi version. Identify the full suffix before comparing parts. |
| Vitodens 200-W, B2HE | B2HE-85, -120, -150, -199 | Identify the control generation and connected heating circuits. |
| Earlier Vitodens 100 | WB1A, WB1B, B1HA, B1KA | Use the matching historic documentation and serial number. |
| Other Vitodens 200 generations and sizes | WB2A, WB2B; B2HB-68, -94, -125, -160, -199; B2HA-285, -311, -352, -399, -530 | Match the generation and input rating. Confirm service scope for larger equipment. |
| Vitodens 222 | B2TA / B2TB; B2TB-68 and -125 | Storage-combi arrangements need heating and stored-water checks. B2TB is discontinued in Canada. |
| Vitocrossal 300, CU3A | CU3A-94, -125, -160, -199 | Floor-standing gas condensing family; assess the connected system. |
| Larger Vitocrossal systems | 200 CI2 / CM2; 300 CA3 / CA3B / CT3 | Confirm equipment input, plant arrangement and service scope before booking. |
| Legacy Vitogas | 050 ECD / ECDS / ECV; 100 GS1 / GS10 | Confirm the complete type, burner and available replacement components. |
| Other older gas equipment | Atola AR / G1N / RS; Vertomat VSB | Provide rating-plate and burner details for a model-specific review. |
Canadian manufacturer references: Vitodens 100-W, Vitodens 200-W B2HE, Vitodens 222-F, and Vitocrossal CU3A. Earlier types can be checked through the historic manual library and serial-number locator.
For B2HB and B2TB boilers, check Viessmann’s model-and-serial-specific heat-exchanger safety notice. If your unit is affected, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and contact the manufacturer or your heating contractor promptly.
If your label says Vitola, Vitorond, Rondomat, Vitotron or Vitoflex, send the complete details first. These families can involve different fuels or applications; their presence in a manufacturer library is not confirmation that a residential gas-boiler appointment covers the equipment.

Which Viessmann Boiler Parts Need Model-Specific Identification?
The proposed component must match the appliance and the diagnosed fault. We check the full boiler identification, relevant part information and any required associated items before recommending replacement. External pumps, valves and tanks also need their own identification; the boiler brand alone does not specify them.
| Component group | Question the repair should answer |
|---|---|
| Ignition and flame detection | What test supports replacing the electrode, lead or related component? |
| Control board and sensors | Were the power supply, connected wiring and input signals checked? |
| Gas valve, fan and combustion components | Which model-specific component and post-repair tests are required? |
| Circulator, zone valve or diverter | Is the fault inside the appliance or in a connected heating or hot-water circuit? |
| Heat exchanger, seals and condensate components | Is cleaning appropriate, is damage present, and which seals or associated parts belong in the scope? |
Viessmann’s ViParts information explains serial-number lookup and compatibility checking. A catalogue match still does not confirm stock or establish why a component failed.
For the wider system, see our boiler parts replacement guide: pumps, valves and expansion tanks, part identification, and repair-quote checks.
What Should a Viessmann Repair Quote Explain?
Your quote should connect the diagnosed fault to a defined repair, with the part, labour and required testing clearly described. The model, access and component availability affect the scope. Confirm assessment charges and any return visit separately so you understand the proposed total before approving work.
Six items to confirm before parts are ordered
- The diagnosed fault and the evidence supporting the recommendation.
- The component identity, compatibility check and associated seals or fittings.
- Diagnostic charges, labour, taxes and other stated costs.
- Any draining, refilling or access work included in the repair.
- Whether a return visit is required and when the part is expected.
- The tests, service record and warranty terms included at handover.
A photograph or error code can help prepare the visit. It cannot establish a complete repair price. If the proposed scope changes during diagnosis, ask for the revised work and price before continuing.
A Burke Mountain Service Note: Why the First Part Was Not the Whole Answer
A previous service note from a Burke Mountain call describes an F4 fault that returned after an igniter had already been replaced. Further inspection led to heat-exchanger and condensate-path cleaning. The useful lesson is to investigate the operating conditions that remain after an initial repair.
On that call, I found that the heat exchanger had not been properly cleaned. I serviced the heat exchanger and condensate trap, cleared the drainage path and checked it before reassembling and restarting the boiler. The F4 fault cleared during that visit.
This call illustrates why checking the heat exchanger and drainage path matters after an ignition repair. Your model and findings guide the next step.

When Is Maintenance the Right Appointment?
Maintenance follows the inspection and service requirements for the identified boiler. Repair investigates a reported failure. If your boiler repeatedly locks out, leaks or loses heat, describe that fault when booking so the visit allows for diagnosis as well as any cleaning that is needed.
- Keep the previous service record and note any changes since the last visit.
- Ask what inspection, cleaning and operational checks the appointment includes.
- Tell us about every affected heating zone and the domestic hot-water arrangement.
Use the current operating and service manual or the historic manual for your model. Our boiler service page explains the maintenance route. A cleaning visit does not mean every existing fault or replacement component is included.

When Should You Compare Repair With Replacement?
Compare the proposed repair with the condition of the boiler and the connected system. An available part and an isolated fault can support repair. Repeated failures, significant damage or unavailable components may justify a replacement assessment. Equipment age alone does not settle that decision for your home.
Ask what the repair will resolve and what concerns would remain. A replacement proposal should address heat demand, emitters, zoning, domestic hot water, venting and service access. Start with our boiler installation planning guide and select your city for the local assessment route.

How Do Parts Warranty and Service Costs Fit Together?
Warranty review starts with your model, installation date, registration and the applicable terms. Confirm which component may qualify and which service costs remain payable. We need that information before ordering parts; manufacturer approval and the written warranty determine coverage, rather than a general promise on a webpage.
Viessmann Canada describes a standard two-year parts warranty and a possible three-year registration extension for eligible residential gas condensing boilers, subject to its terms. Its Canadian warranty information explains eligibility, registration timing and approval. Use the specific warranty sheet for your equipment.
Keep the installation invoice, registration details, serial number and service records together. Ask the quote to distinguish the component from diagnosis, labour, travel and other work. Do not assume that a parts claim covers every item on the invoice.
Arrange the Right Visit for Your Viessmann System
Send your city, full model, serial number, display photo and a short description of the problem. Say whether heating, hot water or both are affected, and mention access restrictions. We can then discuss the appointment, assessment scope and information needed before any parts decision is made.
For local booking information, use Vancouver boiler repair, Burnaby boiler repair, Coquitlam boiler repair or New Westminster boiler repair. For another service location, start from our boiler repair directory. These city guides cover local service needs; this page covers the Viessmann equipment.
Questions Before You Book Viessmann Boiler Repair
These questions address the decisions that often come before a service visit: identifying the model, interpreting a quote, checking warranty information and planning around parts availability. Bring your earlier repair paperwork if you have it. The findings at your property determine the recommended work and next step.
Do you need the serial number if I already know it is a Vitodens 100?
Yes. Vitodens 100 includes several generations. Send the full type and serial number from an accessible label, plus a display photo. Those details help identify the correct documentation and parts. Do not open a sealed appliance compartment to find a label.
Does an F4 or FF code mean I should order a particular part?
No. Record the exact code, including punctuation, and the boiler type. The matching service information and tests determine the cause. Ordering an electrode or control board from the code alone can leave the original problem unresolved.
Can an older Viessmann still be worth repairing?
Yes, when the fault is repairable, the required component is available and the rest of the system remains suitable. Ask for the repair scope and any unresolved concerns. Age alone does not establish that a replacement is the better choice.
What if the quoted part is covered but the visit is not?
Ask for separate lines for the component, diagnosis, labour, travel and other work. Manufacturer approval and the applicable warranty terms determine coverage. Confirm your own payable amount before authorizing a repair; a parts warranty is not a promise that every service cost is included.
Can you check a repair recommendation from another company?
You can request another assessment. Send the earlier findings, quoted part number, model and current symptoms. We need to establish the operating condition ourselves before agreeing that the proposed component is the cause.
Why can a boiler heat the rooms but fail to heat tap water?
The investigation depends on the arrangement. A combi boiler has a domestic-water demand path inside the appliance. A boiler with a separate indirect tank also depends on that tank’s controls and circulation. Tell us which setup you have when booking.
Will you finish the repair during the first visit?
That depends on the diagnosis, access and availability of the correct part. We can confirm the appointment and explain the proposed next step once the fault is established. A booking time should not be confused with a confirmed completion time.
What should I do when the boiler locks out again?
Photograph the display and stop repeated resets. Use only the homeowner actions allowed by the operating manual. Keep covers closed and arrange a diagnostic visit. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas emergency line or 911 from outside.
